Of approximately 250 entries, 32 made it through the first tier of eight reader/judges.
Two additional judges reduced those 32 to their personal short list which, in combination, resulted in ten stories to be sent for final judging. Seven of those ten stories were selected by both judges.
In the final judging one story was chosen by all three judges as the winning entry. Stand out attributes were pace, appropriate choice of structure, a developing empathy for the main character, excellent choice of language and tone, high reader engagement.
Choosing the runner up was a greater challenge. Factors taken into consideration during an energetic discussion included: appropriate ending, tone, and style; continuity, motivation, and degree of reader engagement.
