Editor Jo Butler will conduct one masterclass on Saturday and one on Sunday on 17 & 18 May 2014 as part of WriteFest.
The Changing Shape of Australian Publishing (and how your manuscript fits in)
MASTERCLASS
Presented by editor Jo Butler
The publishing market in Australia has been facing tough times over the past couple of years and it might seem harder than ever to find a place for your manuscript with one of the large publishing houses. Prior to this day-long masterclass, Jo Butler, one of Australia’s leading editors and former HarperCollins fiction publisher, will assess your manuscript partial. During the masterclass, she will guide you, as part of a small group, through ways to make your manuscript stand out in terms of presenting it to Australia’s major publishing houses and literary agents. Also discussed will be the perks and pitfalls of self-publishing and other non-traditional publishing models you might like to consider for your manuscript.
N.B. Writers who have completed a full-length manuscript or written a substantial amount of a full-length manuscript, or who have written a body of short stories, are invited to apply for this Masterclass. Please submit 10-15 pages (and a one page synopsis if submitting a manuscript partial) to Jo through the Bundaberg Writers Club Inc via email to novels@sandycurtis.com or hard copy to PO Box 1486, Bundaberg Qld 4670 by 11 April 2013. Participants will be selected by Jo based on this submission. Each masterclass is limited to 10 participants. Writers will be advised of the outcome of their application by 19 April. Only vacancies in the Saturday masterclass session remain.
If you have not received acknowledgement of your submission within three
